A complete, up-to-date guide to MBBS admission in UP — government and private college lists, fee structure, NEET cutoff trends, reservation rules, and every counselling round explained in plain language.
Once NEET UG 2026 results are declared, admission to Uttar Pradesh's medical colleges is conducted purely on merit. UP counselling covers 85% state-quota seats in government/autonomous medical colleges and universities, and 100% of MBBS seats in private non-minority and minority medical colleges of the state. The remaining 15% of government seats are filled separately through the MCC All India Quota (AIQ) counselling.
Open to candidates from anywhere in India; conducted centrally by MCC.
Mainly reserved for UP-domicile candidates; conducted by the state counselling authority.
Only candidates who appeared in NEET UG 2026 and were declared qualified are eligible for UP counselling. Domicile rules differ for government and private colleges.
Candidates must hold UP domicile. Those who passed both Class 10 and 12 from Uttar Pradesh don't need a separate domicile certificate; if one or both exams were passed outside UP, a valid domicile/general residence certificate must be submitted.
UP domicile is not mandatory here — candidates who completed Class 10 and 12 from other Indian states are also eligible to apply.
Registration on the official UP NEET counselling portal is compulsory for every round, including the stray vacancy round. The registration fee is ₹2,000 per round and is non-refundable.
| Seat Type | Security Deposit |
|---|---|
| Government medical colleges | ₹30,000 |
| Private medical colleges | ₹2,00,000 |
| Private dental colleges | ₹1,00,000 |
| Both government + private medical (combined) | ₹2,00,000 |
Security money is deposited online, and choice filling isn't allowed without it. If no seat is allotted after all rounds, the deposit is refunded to the same account.
For state-quota seats in government colleges, universities and autonomous institutions, vertical reservation applies as follows:
| Category | Reservation |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 21% |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 2% |
| Other Backward Classes (OBC) | 27% |
| Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) | 10% |
Horizontal reservation applies within these categories: 2% for freedom fighters' dependants, 2% for ex-servicemen/war-disabled/martyred personnel's dependants, 5% for persons with disabilities, 1% for NCC candidates (holding a valid B or C certificate), and 20% for women candidates. In minority institutions, 50% of seats go to the concerned religious minority and the remaining 50% to open category.
UP NEET UG 2026 counselling is conducted online across four stages.
If a candidate is allotted a seat but doesn't want to join, the security deposit is refunded in full and they can participate again in Round 2 or Round 3.
Candidates who are not required to redeposit security don't need to. If newly allotted a seat, joining is compulsory — skipping it forfeits the full security deposit, and a fresh deposit is needed for Round 3.
Admission to an allotted seat is compulsory. In government colleges, an upgraded candidate who doesn't join loses the security deposit and applicable fees. In private colleges, non-joining can forfeit the security deposit plus 50% of any tuition fee already paid.
Open only to candidates unallotted in any earlier round. Fresh ₹2,000 registration is mandatory. Not joining after allotment forfeits the deposit and debars the candidate from the following year's UP NEET counselling.

Yes — several private colleges and the deemed university in UP offer NRI quota seats through the applicable counselling process.
Review the full fee structure, hidden or miscellaneous charges, hostel fees, service bond conditions, and any other applicable costs before participating in counselling and choosing a seat.
Check whether the college's fee structure is involved in any legal or court-related matter — a court decision after admission can sometimes lead to a fee difference of ₹20–30 lakh or more.
