02.Karnataka MBBS Admission & KEA Counselling
MBBS admission in Karnataka is conducted through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on the basis of UGNEET. A candidate needs to understand the eligible quota, Karnataka eligibility clauses, document-verification requirements and option-entry rules before locking college preferences.
State Counselling Authority
Handles registration, verification, option entry, mock allotment and seat allotment for the applicable Karnataka routes.
NEET-based Merit
NEET qualification is the basic academic gateway before Karnataka counselling participation.
03.Eligibility, Karnataka Clauses & Non-Karnataka Candidates
Candidates must first qualify UGNEET-2026 and satisfy the academic requirements. Karnataka reservation and government-quota eligibility can involve additional study and domicile conditions.
Academic eligibility
- Must have qualified UGNEET-2026.
- Must have passed 2nd PUC/Class 12 or an equivalent examination.
- English should have been studied as one of the subjects.
- General-category candidates require 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- For Karnataka reserved categories such as SC, ST, Category-I, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B, the qualifying PCB threshold is 40% as stated in the reference material.
Karnataka eligibility — Clause A
One route requires study in recognised educational institutions in Karnataka for at least seven academic years from Class 1 through Class 12/2nd PUC, together with passing the applicable Class 10 or Class 12 examination in Karnataka.
Karnataka eligibility — Clause B
Another route covers candidates who completed 11th and 12th/1st and 2nd PUC in Karnataka where the applicable parent-study condition is met, including a parent having studied in Karnataka for at least seven years.
04.Government, Private, NRI & Q Quotas Explained

Private non-minority seat pattern
The reference material describes an illustrative 100-seat distribution for private non-minority colleges as 40% Government, 40% Private, 15% NRI and 5% Q. Within the private share, GMP and OPN allocations are shown separately.

| Government (G) | 40% |
| Private / GMP + OPN | 40% |
| NRI | 15% |
| Q / Others | 5% |
Private minority institutions
For minority colleges, the reference material gives a 25% Government, 55% Private, 15% NRI and 5% Others framework. Within the 55% private share, 66% is earmarked for the respective religious/linguistic minority and the remaining 34% is divided between GMP and OPN.
Minority categories
Christian and Muslim minority routes can include eligible Karnataka as well as outside-Karnataka candidates, with priority conditions for Karnataka-domiciled religious-minority candidates. Linguistic-minority routes mentioned include Tamil, Telugu, Kodava and Tulu, with the applicable study conditions.
05.KEA Registration, Fees & Option Entry
After NEET qualification, candidates register with KEA, complete document verification and receive the applicable verification confirmation before participating in option entry and allotment.
| Candidate group | Registration fee in reference |
|---|---|
| Specified Karnataka categories | ₹750 |
| Non-Karnataka candidates | ₹2,500 |
| NRI Ward / NRI / OCI / PIO / Foreign Nationals | ₹5,000 |
Qualify NEET UG
Secure a valid UGNEET qualification before starting Karnataka admission formalities.
Register with KEA
Complete the online application and provide the requested personal, academic and category information.
Document Verification
Upload/produce the applicable certificates and complete verification as instructed by KEA.
Receive Verification Slip
Keep the verification confirmation safely; it becomes important during later counselling stages.
Review Seat Matrix & Fees
Compare college, quota, fee and eligibility before arranging the preference order.
Enter Options
KEA uses the option-entry system for seat allotment. The reference material describes option entry as a one-time preference exercise.
Mock Allotment
Use the mock result to understand how the current preference order may translate into a seat.
Final Allotment
Review the allotted college and complete the applicable fee-payment and reporting requirements.
06.Karnataka Counselling Rounds & Reporting Rules
Round 1 — Four choices
| Choice | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Choice 1 | Accept the allotted seat and exit the counselling process. |
| Choice 2 | Accept the seat and continue for an upgrade where permitted. |
| Choice 3 | Reject the current allotment and participate in the next round. |
| Choice 4 | Exit counselling. |
What happens after accepting a seat?
The reference process includes online fee payment, downloading the confirmation slip, physical reporting at the allotted college, original-document verification, face-recognition checks, WhatsApp OTP verification and issuance of the provisional admission letter/order.
Round 2
Fresh registration/enrolment is generally not repeated for existing eligible candidates. Candidates with applicable choices, candidates without a seat and those participating for upgrades follow the instructions of the current KEA round.
Round 3 / Mop-Up
The third stage is more binding: an upgraded allotment is treated as final under the applicable rules and the previous seat cannot simply be reclaimed. Candidates should therefore enter preferences carefully.
Stray vacancy
The stray stage can permit fresh registration where KEA opens it. Candidates should check the current notice because eligibility, participation and reporting conditions can differ from earlier rounds.

KEA application printout, NEET admit card and NEET score/rank document.
